Preschoolers might face speech or sensory issues. If these affect learning or socializing, experts assess and guide interventions.
DeleteLack of facilities is a great concern to the preschool as well as school children
DeleteI have a child in my class who is very loving but just doesn't want to mix up. He comes in the morning and goes directly to his same old place, even if I try to change. He sits through out the sessions, it maybe singing rhymes, activity areas time, but enjoys the rhymes , recitation of alphabets, even if he gets up , he will take few blocks n goback to his place . Then all of a sudden he gets up and starts playing running from one end of the class to the other smiling to himself. His words are not clear and makes some sounds in between. Not interested in coloring, , writing. When I shared my observations politely to the parents, His mother too had the same thoughts. So when there was yearly medical health check up, I spoke to the doctors, who in turn after a thorough checkup spoke to the mother for further expert intervention
ReplyDeleteWe need to make special provision in schools
DeleteLearning disabilities are commonly identified in school as they are hidden disabilities and are manifested in classrooms and parents have no way of knowing them. ADHD is also identified in classroom set up as they are considered as part of childhood naughtiness and hence go unnoticed at home. After trying out ways and methods to keep them engaged with customised activities and methods, if the child does not seem to benefit from these solutions and seems to need specialised expert help to help in their growth and development parents will be advised to go to a subject expert . It is beneficial to maintain a list of contacts of child specialists for children with special needs to help out parents seeking the same.

ReplyDeleteIn my classroom I have observed that many children are learning disabled .they are unable to differentiate between the similar letters and they also face the attention problems .
ReplyDeleteA child in my classroom is very much into himself, enjoys his own company, keeps smiling all the time, with no interest in rhymes or activities.. he enjoys sitting in one place and playing only with one particular toy, gets irritated when touched by others. So during the monthly interaction this was politely conveyed to his mother who inturn agreed to this kind of behaviour at home as well... Soo i requested her to atleast once take him to an expert for advice.
ReplyDeleteADHD has been identified in the classroom.. He is unable to understand and follow the instructions.. With lot of patience, we deal with him... Parents have been notified
ReplyDeleteI have a student who is very withdrawn. He does not like to mingle with his classmates. Most of the time he lags in his work. He has severe learning disability and loss of mother has added to his woes. We at school our providing him special educator along with the regular teacher. He has shown some improvement. The road ahead is full of challanges but slowly and steadily we will be able to tread.

A child in my class likes to sit silent and observe. She is comfortable sitting on the last seat. However much I try to shift her only one row forward, she starts looking down and from side to side. She speaks very softly and it is difficult to understand her words but she draws nicely and expresses herself well through them. Her eyes also express her emotions well. I spoke to her parents and told them to give her more speaking time in the family and also to let her interact more with other friends and relatives. Speaking to the community helpers - vegetable seller, dhobi etc. in the presence of her parents, would also also open her up.
ReplyDeleteADHD has been observed in my class. The child is not able to speak and understand anything in the class. Parents have been informed about it.
ReplyDeleteWhen a child doesn't behave as he/she should do as per developmental milestones, then we should approach the specialist for required intervention as early as possible.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, we have children in our classrooms who do self talk, respond only to visual aids and do not make eye contact with others. In such cases, we refer to our additional needs department and seek help in helping these children.
ReplyDeletea child in my class cannot stay still, sputum keeps pouring out, speech is not clear.at times the child get fits as well
ReplyDeleteThe children with special needs are unnoticed at home, as parents are unaware of the developmental milestones, They do not want to accept the fact that their child need spacial intervention. We have 2 children in our class who don't speak. So they don't mix with other children and to express themselves they bite or bit other children. We spoke with their parents and suggested special intervention.
ReplyDeleteThere is a student in my class who lacks focus and does not like to mingle with other children . Of course this is a problem since no student should be left out on any classroom activities.
ReplyDeleteHowever every child behaves distinctively and being an educator ,one must try to assess and solve such issue.
Allowing such children to take their time and learn at their pave is crucial and identifying their areas of interests is a must in order to facilitate smooth transition to achieve a better learning outcome .
A boy in my class has no liking for studies, because he has learning disabilities. But I sit beside him and encourage him and make him positive. It's working. Just I am beside him.

ReplyDeleteSome Times we find out that the same child who is good in identifying letters is not able to identify numerals although after practising many a times
ReplyDeleteInfrastructure is needed in our valley in schools & in infrastructure as well
ReplyDeleteIn my 10 years of teaching experience, I have come across students with learning disabilities or those who are challenged by their differences. There are students who are unwilling to cooperate or engage in the activities with their peers which can be due to lack of self-esteem, shyness or some other reasons which can affect the growth and learning of the child and their social life. Then there are also students who find it hard to do some tasks due to their disabilities or disorders. There are cases where the problem faced by students go unnoticed which can become a barrier in communication or learning.
ReplyDeleteIn my Classroom, I observed that Children focused to different things as thier attention are paying to different activities....So I tried to do activity in the class to tale the attentuon of all students towards the lesson

ReplyDeleteI can tell you that some common special needs that may be observed include developmental delays, speech and language disorders, sensory processing issues, and learning disabilities. In situations where a child's needs require specialized expertise, it would be appropriate to refer them for expert interventions, such as consultations with pediatricians, speech therapists, occupational therapists, or special education professionals. It's important to provide the best support and resources for each child's unique needs.
ReplyDeleteSpeech delay, delayed motor development and referring to counsellors of school
DeleteIn my school.i have observed that many children are learning disabed.they are unable to differentiate between the similar letters and they also faced the attention problem.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all the main reason in rural areas in particular is that there is no separate staff for ECC. The schools have shortage of staff and infrastructure. If these problems get addressed, there would be fruitful results.
ReplyDeletelanguage disorder is commonly seen in each class. in every class three to four children are there who have difficulty in reading and writing. I would like to ask the expert how to convince parents that their child needs help.

The situation which I faced was that there was a child in my class who never use to sit in the class and use to eat slowly, the speech was also delayed.
ReplyDeleteI referred him to special educator and took his assistance for further guidance to the parents.
The term 'special needs' encompasses various conditions that impact a person's daily functions. Some examples are:
ReplyDelete1. Communication needs: speech or language impairments.
2. Sensorial needs: deafness, vision impairment.
3. Developmental needs: Down Syndrome, autism, intellectual impairment.
4. Learning needs: specific learning disabilities.
There are certain students who are slow to understand the topics taught and easily forget what was just taught a while ago. They are unable to keep up with the rest of the class and as the classes go on they become more withdrawn and do not participate in the class.
ReplyDeleteExtra remedial classes were held for these students and after a couple of months were able to keep pace with the rest of the class. Persistence on the part of the teacher to slowly provide teaching care to such students can bring about a change in their outlook.
Learning disabilities are commonly identified in school as they are hidden disabilities and are manifested in classrooms and parents have no way of knowing them. ReplyDeleteDifferentially abled child need
ReplyDelete1 Extra care
2 pre school quot difficult to mix with other students
It is a problem of concerned that sometime childrens may stick to a particular behaviour and does not want even a minute change in there daily routine and if somehow they routine or place of sitting was change it becomes a matter of great tension and stress for them however teacher's attention must be the mean action to tackle the situation immediately and while narrating the situation to the parents great care must be taken so that the things can be easily understood.
ReplyDeleteIn one of my case in the classroom I directly talk with the child's parent and they supported me a lot I also suggested them to consult the doctor so that the necessary action for the early intervention can be taken up.
1 child behaviour may be repetitive in nature.
ReplyDelete2 child may have speech problem.
3 child may have hearing incapacity.
I would like to have expert opinion on engaging a child with borderline autism, a child coming from linguistic background which is completely unfamiliar to the teacher , a child having speech delay and a child who is too hyperactive to focus or listen to teacher even for a one minute. As it becomes challenging for teacher to focus and engage such children among others , it can create class mismanagement and leads to poor learning outcome.

ReplyDeleteFocus on the child's strength not weakness,Each child is unique
ReplyDeleteOne should set reasonable expectations and maintain discipline, foster intellectual curiosity, help children classify and categorize objects
Presently in my class I have two students who has some disabilities in learning and communicating ,they do face a lot of challenges but we try to encourage them , breaking information down into smaller units, make information as concrete as possible ,give them extra time to follow directions and make transitions. We do try to understand them and help them in all ways for the betterment of their future.

ReplyDeleteECCE is essential for children
ReplyDeletePhysical disability, students who are not willing to speak or open up,
ReplyDeleteLack of patience and lack of infrastructure
ReplyDeleteIn a preschool or Anganwadi setting, special needs that are often observed among children aged birth to 3 years include developmental delays (such as in speech and language, motor skills, or cognitive abilities), sensory impairments (like hearing or vision issues), and behavioral concerns (such as extreme shyness, aggression, or lack of social interaction).
ReplyDeleteSituations that warrant referral for expert interventions include when a child consistently fails to meet developmental milestones, exhibits significant challenges in communication or social interaction, or shows signs of sensory impairments that affect daily functioning. If these issues persist despite initial support from the caregivers or educators, involving specialists like speech therapists, occupational therapists, or developmental pediatricians becomes essential to address the child's needs effectively.
Early childhood development delays and disabilities in children under 3 years can affect various areas, including motor skills, language, cognitive abilities, and social interaction. These delays might be due to genetic factors, prenatal conditions, or environmental influences. Early detection and intervention are crucial as they can significantly improve outcomes by providing targeted support and therapies, helping children reach their full potential. Parents and caregivers should monitor milestones and seek professional advice if concerns arise.

ReplyDeleteChildren with any disability are referred to school counselor
ReplyDeleteChildren with any kind of disability are to be identified timely so that we can help them to learn in easiest way.
ReplyDeleteChildren who have different kinds of disability, as a teacher and parent we should be very careful for them and try to learn them in other pattern .
ReplyDeleteWe identify the disabilities like lack of response, eye contact and sitting tolerance.
ReplyDeleteChildren have various behavioural issues, they don't mix up with their peers. They are shy ,some face learning difficulties while some may be ADHD.in case of severity professional help may be seeked
ReplyDeleteMaintaining hygiene, self motivation, imbalanced teacher- children ratio, less equipment, behavior issues, basic antiquated, responding very late, pre assumption about study, inferiority are the challenges.
ReplyDeleteChildren with disability needs proper intervention.
ReplyDeleteHere are some common special needs observed in preschool/Anganwadi centres:
ReplyDelete*Physical Delays
*Developmental Delays*
*Emotional and Behavioural Challenges*
*Sensory Processing Issues*
1. Sensory Integration Disorder
2. Sensory Processing Disorder
*Situations requiring expert intervention:*
1. *Severe behavioural issues*: Aggression, self-injury, or persistent tantrums.
2. *Significant developmental delays*: Delayed speech, mobility, or cognitive development.
3. *Sensory processing difficulties*: Extreme sensitivity or unresponsiveness to stimuli.
4. *Physical health concerns*: Unmanaged chronic illnesses, seizures, or severe allergies.
5. *Emotional distress*: Persistent anxiety, depression, or suicidal ideation.
6. *Communication barriers*: Severe speech or language impairments.
7. *Social interaction challenges*: Persistent social withdrawal or aggression.
8. *Cognitive impairments*: Significant intellectual disability or learning disabilities.
*Referral process:*
1. Consult with parents/caregivers to discuss concerns.
2. Conduct observational assessments and screenings.
3. Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop strategies.
4. Refer to experts, such as:
- Pediatricians
- Psychologists
- Occupational Therapists (OTs)
- Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs)
Physical therapists (PTs)
- Special education professionals
1. Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Intervention Strategies.
2. Monitor progress and adjust interventions
*Anganwadi-specific strategies:*
1. Inclusive environment creation
2. Adapted teaching methods
3. Individualized care plans
4. Parent-teacher collaboration
5. Community outreach and awareness
6. Referrals to specialized services
Common special needs observed include speech delays, difficulty in motor skills, sensory processing challenges and behavioral concerns like hyperactivity or in attentiveness. Social-emotional issues, such as trouble interacting with peers are also frequent. Early referrals ensure children receive targeted support fostering their overall growth and successful integration into the learning environment.

ReplyDeleteSpeech & language disorders,
ReplyDelete2. Developmental Delays,
3. Learning Disabilities,
4. Behavioral Challenges,
5. Physical Disabilities,
(and last but not the least)
6. Medical Conditions.
However, these situations can be looked into at the early age and child can be helped with teacher and parents cooperation and support the child needs.
As early educators, we are often the first to notice signs of developmental concerns. Timely intervention is crucial to help children reach their full potential. Collaboration with specialists like speech therapists, occupational therapists, or pediatricians can make a significant difference. It is equally important to approach parents with empathy and provide them with resources to support their child’s development effectively.
ReplyDeleteHere are some thoughts on the role of preschool teachers/anganwadi workers in planning the learning environment for children:
ReplyDeletePreschool teachers and anganwadi workers play a crucial role in creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for young children. They are responsible for providing a safe, supportive, and engaging space where children can explore, learn, and grow.
Here are some key aspects of their role in planning the learning environment:
1) Creating a safe and welcoming space: This includes ensuring the physical environment is safe and free from hazards, providing a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, and establishing clear routines and expectations.
2) Providing a variety of learning opportunities: This involves incorporating different learning centers, activities, and materials that cater to children's diverse interests and developmental needs.
3) Using developmentally appropriate practices: This means understanding children's developmental stages and tailoring activities and materials to their abilities and interests.
4) Encouraging exploration and discovery: This involves providing opportunities for children to explore their surroundings, experiment with different materials, and make their own choices.
5) Fostering social and emotional development: This includes creating opportunities for children to interact with each other, develop friendships, and learn to manage their emotions.
6) Building relationships with families: This involves communicating regularly with families about their child's development and progress, and partnering with them to support their child's learning at home.
In conclusion, preschool teachers and anganwadi workers are essential partners in children's early learning and development. By creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment, they can help children build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
In most of the cases, I have noticed that I child have problem with paying proper attention in any topic and wanders of easily. While this could be a common thing for pree schoolers but it can also be sign of ADHD or possible Autism. If any other symptoms like lack socio-emotional development could be a case of autism in which I can suggest parent to diagnose child for Autism professionally.
ReplyDeleteChildren with special needs to be taken care of
ReplyDeleteSpeaking difficultly and concentrating problems are commonly observed in class.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking issues usually gets corrected within 2 to 3 months, when child get comfortable and starts mingling up with friends during play time and activities.
Concentration problems I mostly observe such children are over exposed to mobile phones, cartoons etc.so we speak to the parents and with their help try and bring them on track by giving them more outdoor activities together with colouring drawing etc.
ome children in my classroom are not fully attentive, some lack comprehension and ability to answer. When I shall notice gross inability to respond to simple commands and have difficulties in physical activities, I may seek expert intervention
ReplyDeleteAttention deficit , no eye contact and difficulty in completing simple and age appropriate gross and fine motor activities should be a major concern . A pre school teacher should immediately consult to the experts.
ReplyDeleteLack of facilities is a great concern to the preschool as well as school children
ReplyDeleteAutism Spectrum Disorder (ASD):
ReplyDeletechild has limited eye contact, will avoid interacting socially.
